If you are insured under the statutory health insurance scheme and simply want to cover certain things that are no longer covered by the health insurance, such as dental prostheses, visual aids or alternative treatments, take out supplementary insurance. (Source: www.baby-krankenversicherung.de)
If you, as the rightholder, want to benefit from all the advantages of treatment as a private patient, you must take out additional insurance. However, the differences in the scope of services are very different and depend on what is particularly important to you.
The supplementary insurance covers all or part of the gaps in the statutory health insurance benefits. This type of insurance is taken out to cover services from private medical bills that are not covered by the statutory health insurance (e. g. alternative medical services). The amount of the additional fees depends essentially on the contribution to be paid. As a customer, you can also set your preferences here.
Extra supplementary outpatient insurance
With the surcharge rates, you are not a private patient with the doctor. Standard services are always billed directly to your health insurance company with your insurance card. Optional benefits, such as alternative treatments covered by your supplementary insurance, are paid for first by you but reimbursed by your insurer.
We have taken a closer look at the supplementary insurance offer. Two suppliers are particularly effective. We recommend that you take a closer look at the offers of Signal Iduna and Allianz for you and your child.
Extra outpatient care
This works according to the principle of repayment. The Social Security Code also provides for the possibility of direct billing by the doctor to you as a patient and no longer with the health insurance company itself. If you decide to take out this supplementary insurance, you must apply for reimbursement from your statutory health insurance fund. This is always determined for a calendar quarter. This does not affect contributions to statutory health insurance.
From this point on, you can make an appointment as a private patient with the doctor or, for example, make use of services such as an appointment with a private doctor in Berlin. These specialised paediatricians also come home at night and on weekends, so that you can take your sick child to the hospital’s outpatient clinic for a long and unpleasant time.
You will then receive a private invoice from the doctor. In the next step, you first submit this invoice to your legal insurance fund (principle of reimbursement). The latter will then reimburse you for your statutory share and you will receive a copy of the invoice with the corresponding refund invoice. These will be sent to your private health insurance company. The private health insurance then covers the rest of the reimbursement to you and you can pay the doctor’s bill with the amount collected on time without having to pay the amount yourself.
